Deborah Hawkinson, CPC

Association Executive with over 20 years of experience managing trade association operations, creating financial stability and growth for associations. Deborah is a leader in change management to create profitable organizations and deliver value for member companies. Also, as a certified professional coach (CPC), Deborah has a passion for helping others excel in their strengths and overcome obstacles in their professional and personal livelihoods.

Deborah (Deb) Hawkinson joined the Forest Resources Association (FRA) as president. In July 2012. In this role, she oversaw the National Office administration, member relations, financial accountability, and FRA’s regional operations. As a result of Hawkinson’s leadership, FRA’s business and public policy goals are more closely

aligned to increasing members’ political involvement and advocacy results in advancing federal public policy. In addition, the national organization remains a leader in addressing forest operation challenges and identifying best practices to enhance efficiencies within the supply chain.

Hawkinson’s career representing the forest products industry in Washington, DC spans more than 20 years. She has a strong background in association management and public policy, successfully advancing advocacy efforts for industry issues and increasing member political activism. As executive director of the Washington, DC-based Hardwood Federation, Hawkinson expanded the organization’s government relations, communications capacities, and member participation. 

Prior to that, she spent seven years with increasing responsibilities at the American Forest & Paper Association, eventually as director of issues management, overseeing political involvement programs and grassroots communication, following a 14-year stint with Weyerhaeuser in their Federal Affairs office in Washington, DC.

Hawkinson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and Development from Regent University and studied Association Management at George Mason University’s School of Public and International Affairs, received a professional coach certification from College of Executive Coaching and is a member of the International Coaching Federation.
